DPF, AdBlue and SCR
Why does an AdBlue or SCR fault limit machine power?
An AdBlue/SCR fault can trigger derate on modern machinery: automatic limits on power, engine speed or travel speed. It is not simply a sensor fault. The system monitors AdBlue quality and supply, pressure, dosing, temperatures and NOx-reduction efficiency.
Read exact codes and derate status first
Establish whether codes are active or stored, how long they have been present, the restriction level and any countdown to the next derate stage. Do not clear codes before recording the initial data.
AdBlue level and quality
Check actual level and sensor accuracy, fluid quality, contamination, water or incorrect fluid, storage time and conditions. On some machines, the level indication does not update immediately after filling.
AdBlue pump and pressure
The system must build and hold the specified pressure using the manufacturer’s procedure. Check pump, filter, lines, leaks, return line, pressure sensor and crystallisation. Dosing will not be correct without pressure.
Dosing injector
Urea crystals around the doser are common. Check spray pattern, electrics, contamination, crystallisation, fluid supply and sealing. Simply piercing the hole is not a repair confirmation: both spray pattern and delivered quantity matter.
System heating
AdBlue freezes at sub-zero temperatures, so the system is heated. Check tank, line and pump or module heating, temperature sensors and heater supplies. Heating faults may appear specifically in cold weather.
NOx sensors
SCR efficiency is assessed using sensors before and after the catalyst. A faulty sensor may cause an efficiency fault, incorrect SCR assessment or derate. But NOx in a code alone does not justify replacement: follow the specific code procedure first.
Temperatures and SCR, DOC and DPF condition
SCR requires particular operating conditions. Check temperatures, DOC, DPF, SCR catalyst, exhaust leaks and regenerations. If the engine or DPF does not provide the required conditions, SCR may also malfunction.
If normal regeneration is still permitted
If the fault concerns DPF or temperature and the machine still permits manual or stationary regeneration, follow the normal procedure after warm-up and meeting manufacturer conditions. Regeneration will not repair an AdBlue pump, NOx sensor, blocked doser, poor fluid or damaged SCR.
Why derate may remain after repair
Some systems require a successful test, a particular work cycle, service procedure, quality and dosing confirmation or diagnostic derate reset according to the manufacturer. Cleared codes without immediate power recovery do not always mean the repair failed.
What you can observe
Record AdBlue level, exact display message, codes, crystals or leaks, when the fault appeared, any sharp cold spell, derate status and concurrent DPF, NOx or temperature codes.
What to avoid
Do not replace NOx sensors, pump or doser at random. Normal diagnosis does not start by disabling or removing the system. First determine why SCR conditions are unmet and how normal operation can be restored.

Have a fault code?
Problem still there?
If these checks have not identified the cause or the fault returns, contact TSV Servis. The more initial information you provide, the sooner we can identify the next diagnostic direction.
What to send us
Send the machine model, S/N, engine, all SCR/DPF codes, derate level, AdBlue pressure, temperatures, NOx data, dosing status and regeneration history.
Include the make and model, S/N or a nameplate photo, engine model if known, operating hours, exact code or display photo and when the fault occurs.
Also tell us what you have already checked or replaced and the results. Include a photo or short video of the symptom where useful.
