Engine starting

    Engine starts then immediately stalls

An engine that starts reliably then stops after a second, several seconds or key release differs from a normal no-start. Does it stop after the same time, or only with throttle, hydraulics or gear engagement? Main directions: fuel supply/pressure, RUN/STOP command, ECM power, speed/synchronization, interlocks, air and exhaust.

It stops after the same interval

Check RUN/STOP, emergency stop, immobilizer if fitted, ECM relays/power, power after key return from START to RUN, older-system fuel solenoid/stop valve and active interlocks. Look especially for loss of power or run permission when the key is released.

Enough fuel to start, not to keep running

The engine may start on fuel already in the filter, pump or rail, then lose pressure. Consider a blocked filter, weak lift pump, air, blocked tank pickup, closed tap, pinched line, poor tank ventilation or water/dirt in the fuel.

    Common Rail

Observe actual pressure after starting. If it rises then falls as the engine stops, check high-pressure pump, metering valve, regulator, injector return leakage, low-pressure supply, pressure sensor and wiring.

    Speed and synchronization

The ECM may lose a signal after starting. Watch RPM, crank/cam, synchronization status and Speed/Timing faults right up to shutdown.

    Air and exhaust

If starting is difficult with smoke and immediate stalling, rule out a heavily blocked air filter, intake flap, damaged hoses, turbo, DPF/DOC/SCR, exhaust flap and collapsed silencer.

It stalls when hydraulics or travel engage

If idle is normal but unlocking hydraulics or engaging travel/a function stops the engine, also check hydraulic/transmission load. The pump may not unload, its control may be wrong, the system may immediately reach high pressure, or a spool/function may stick. Alternatively the engine has lost power and cannot carry a normal load.

    What to observe

Seconds until shutdown, repeatability, relation to key release, changing fuel pressure, faults before stopping, running without hydraulics, response to unlocking hydraulics and smoke.

    Further service support

    Have a fault code?

    Problem still there?

If these checks have not identified the cause or the fault returns, contact TSV Servis. The more initial information you provide, the sooner we can identify the next diagnostic direction.

    What to send us

Machine/engine model, S/N, hours, faults, running time before stopping, fuel pressure/RPM just before shutdown and whether hydraulics or travel trigger it.

Include the make and model, S/N or a nameplate photo, engine model if known, operating hours, exact code or display photo and when the fault occurs.

Also tell us what you have already checked or replaced and the results. Include a photo or short video of the symptom where useful.
