Why does the engine emit white smoke?
White smoke can have different causes. Distinguish unburned diesel, water vapor/coolant and cold-start-only smoke. Color alone is not a diagnosis.
White smoke at cold start
Long cranking, uneven starting and white smoke in the first minutes direct checks to preheating, injector atomization, compression, valve clearances, slow cranking and the temperature sensor. Complete disappearance after warming is an important clue.
White smoke smells of diesel
Fuel enters the cylinders but ignites poorly. Check injectors, injection pressure, synchronization, compression, timing and cold-start assistance.
White vapor with coolant loss
If it remains hot and coolant falls, rule out coolant entering cylinders: head gasket, cracked head/block, damaged liner or, on some engines, EGR cooler. Further clues: cooling-system pressure/bubbles, sweet exhaust odor, loss without an external leak and one cylinder starting poorly after standing.
Normal vapor is not always a fault
Cold damp weather may cause visible condensation. If vapor disappears warm, coolant stays stable and operation is normal, it may simply be water evaporating from the exhaust.
What to observe
Cold only or continuous? Diesel odor, coolant loss, cooling pressure after a cold start, uneven running/cylinder misfire and disappearance after warming.

What to send us
Engine model, S/N, smoke conditions, coolant consumption, faults, injector data and cooling-system condition.
Include the make and model, S/N or a nameplate photo, engine model if known, operating hours, exact code or display photo and when the fault occurs.
Also tell us what you have already checked or replaced and the results. Include a photo or short video of the symptom where useful.
